It does not apply to information you provide to us by other means, and it does not change any obligations we have to our clients under the West Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct.
If you fill out the contact form on this site, we receive the information you enter — typically your name, email address, phone number, the practice area you select, and whatever you choose to write in the message field. If you email us directly using an address listed on this site, we receive the contents of that email.
You decide how much to share. We ask that you not send detailed or sensitive information about a legal matter through the contact form or by email before we have spoken with you, for the reason described in the section on confidentiality below.
Like most websites, this site collects limited technical information automatically when you visit. This can include your general geographic area, the type of device and browser you are using, which pages you viewed, how long you spent on them, and the website or search that referred you here.
This information is collected in aggregate and is used to understand how the site is being used — for example, which pages people find helpful — so the site can be improved. It is not used to identify you personally.

Submitting the contact form or sending an email does not create an attorney-client relationship, and information sent to us before we agree to represent you may not be treated as confidential. An attorney-client relationship with our firm is formed only after we have checked for conflicts of interest and both you and the firm have agreed, in writing, to the representation.
For that reason, we recommend limiting an initial message to a general description of your situation and how to reach you. Once we have spoken and agreed to work together, communications between us are protected in the ordinary way.
We take reasonable steps to protect information submitted through this site. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us electronically.
